Adolescent mental illness and the relationship between parenting styles

Abstract: Objective: To study the diagnosis of mental disorders in 78 patients with teenagers objects to study mental illness and the relationship between parenting styles. Methods: Symptom Checklist (SCL-90 and parenting scale (EMBU test check conducted Results: disease group and the normal group on the SCL-90 and EMBU significant difference (P <0.05. Conclusions: Parents lack of emotional warmth, punishment, rejection, overprotective parenting and preferences and other negative way teenagers produced one of the important reasons of mental illness, will increase the risk of adolescent mental illness.

With the advancement of social and medical sciences, adolescent somatic morbidity decreased, but the incidence of mental illness incidence increased year by year. Clinical practice and research shows that young people's personality, emotional characteristics, behavior is closely related with their families rearing . good styles on adolescent mental health has a positive role in promoting, poor parenting style is not conducive to adolescent mental health and even cause it to suffer from psychological disorders [1-3]. Given previous research to use more healthy population for the study to Parenting Style and investigated the relationship between mental health, research places diagnosed with mental disorders for the study to analyze adolescent parenting and the relationship between mental health.

1 Materials and Methods

1.1 General information: In Tongchuan Mining mental health rehabilitation center 78 cases of adolescent mental disorders for the study, 31 were male, female 47, aged 13 to 19 years, mean (16.7 + -1.25, parental education high school and above, 22 cases, 56 cases of high school there, and their psychological barriers are distributed as follows: 15 cases of schizophrenia, there are five cases of obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety neurosis, 22 cases of depression have 17 cases, 5 cases of phobia, social phobia, 14 patients, all diagnosed by a psychiatrist to make in order to facilitate the analysis of adolescent mental illness and the relationship between parenting styles, and 78 healthy subjects were selected test composition control group, 31 males and 47 females, aged 13 to 19 years, mean (15.8 + -1.34 years, both groups live together with their parents at an early age.

1.2 Methods: Symptom Checklist (SCL-90 and parenting scale (EMBU on the normal population and mental disorders unified Surveying. SCL-90 a total of 90 projects, including 10 factors, each project uses Li Specter five scoring [4], Parenting Scale (EMBU amended by the Yue Dongmei et al, which is reflected in the six fathers parenting style factor (58 items, reflecting the mother Rearing five factors (57 items [5] All data entry and analysis performed using SPSS17.0.

2 Results We were two groups of subjects in the SCL-90 and parenting style questionnaire (EMBU scores on independent samples t-test, see Table 1-2 through independent samples t-test, we found that in addition to "hostile" outside factors , disease groups in other factors on the SCL-90 were significantly higher than through independent samples t-test, we found that in the "emotional warmth father" and "mother emotional warmth", the control group were significantly higher than the disease group, parents "severe punishment", "refuse", "overprotective" and "preference" on the disease group were significantly higher.

3 Discussion The results of this study revealed that adolescent mental illness and parenting styles are closely related, as compared with the control group, disease group, parents are more a "severe punishment", "refuse", "overprotective" and "preference" and other negative rearing, and less use of "warmth" This positive parenting style. This result is consistent with previous studies of [2,3,6]. parents give their children the emotional warmth, it will make children a pleasurable emotions, make them more self-acceptance, on the contrary, if the parents refuse their children holding, controlling attitude will cause their children self-esteem, anxiety, withdrawal, too submissive, insecurity, aggressive or antisocial behavior. Alternatively, if parents overprotective and preference children, children will form a dependent personality, self-centered, not well adapt to the environment. Finally, the parents give their children too much punishment and even a trifle on the fight, but encounter difficulties in children can not give effective help even young people can lead to psychological illness. Accordingly, parenting styles on children's mental health and personality development plays a vital role in the formation of results of this study indicate that parents lack emotional warmth, punishment, rejection, overprotective and preferences such as negative rearing the young generation is one important reason of mental illness, may increase the risk of adolescent mental illness.
